FAQ

What is MakersApp?+

MakersApp is pricing and bookkeeping for makers, handmade sellers and small workshops. You enter material, working time, machines and sales platform and immediately see the minimum price and the profit per piece. On top of that: material stock with cutting, machine list with electricity costs, sales recording, invoices with your own letterhead, cash book and the yearly profit summary as PDF.

Does MakersApp only work for Etsy?+

No. Etsy, eBay, Shopify, Amazon Handmade, and cash/market sales come pre-configured - with all current fees. You can adjust these values anytime or add your own platforms with custom fee structures. Marketplace, direct sale or your own shop - it all works.

Do I need a subscription for MakersApp?+

For the web app, yes: after a 14-day free trial it costs 5.99 € per month or 34.99 € per year, cancel monthly. Without a subscription there is the Windows version: 49.99 € once, permanent, on up to 3 devices. You can move your projects between the two at any time with a MakersApp project file.

Is my data uploaded to the cloud?+

That is up to you. The Windows version runs fully offline, everything stays on your computer. With the web app your projects are stored on our server in Germany so you can continue on any device; your project data is not analysed or passed on. After your subscription ends they are deleted automatically after 90 days, and you can export them at any time. The website uses statistics cookies only with your consent.

What is the small business VAT exemption?+

Most EU countries and the UK let small businesses below a turnover threshold sell without charging VAT: no VAT on your invoices, no VAT returns, but also no VAT refunds on what you buy. In MakersApp this is a switch in the company profile: invoices get the exemption note automatically, and the calculation treats VAT on platform fees as a cost.

What is the profit and loss summary and how does MakersApp help?+

The simple way to work out profit for a small business: income minus expenses for the tax year. MakersApp collects all sales, platform fees, shipping, packaging, material purchases, tools, machines and running costs per tax year and creates the summary as a PDF. Use it to fill in your tax return or hand it to your accountant.
